It Makes No Sense!
/How confusing is the English language?! I find it funny that there are so many expressions we have that if you really think about them, must confuse the hell out of our kids!!! How can they possibly understand when we say some of these peculiar things??!!
Here are just some of the ones I have had to explain to my kids:
it makes no sense!
“Can you make your bed?” What? I haven’t got time!!
“Watch the hole in the ground” How long for?
“OK let’s call it a day” Call what a day??!!
“Hold your horses” These are dinosaurs. Der!
“Best thing since sliced bread” Apart from my dinosaur though right?
“It costs an arm and a leg” What? I mean seriously, WHAT??!!
“Bob’s your uncle” Errrr, who is Bob?!
“Talk of the devil” I didn’t think we were….
“From the horse’s mouth” What’s a horse got to do with it?
“Like a broken record” What’s a record?
“It’s a piece of cake” No it’s not, it looks nothing like a cake
“A little birdie told me” Whoa, you speak to animals?
“A pinch and a punch for the first of the month” But you tell me not to hurt my brother!
There must be hundreds of these - let us know any funnies that your family use that don’t really make sense! And if you fancy a laugh, here’s a few more - some probably not for in front of the kids though, you have been warned! Let us know yours below?
